About Maharajbag Zoo

The college has unique possession of century old Maharajbag Garden and Zoo. It has a rich tradition and a green backdrop, right in the heart of Orange city. The Maharajbag Zoo earlier known in “Bhosala Dyanasty” as “Shikar Khana”, was established in the year 1894. It is a star attraction for the visitors to the city. It is spread on 10 ha area. The Maharajbag has a rich collection of herbs, shrubs, ornamental and aromatic plants, medicinal plants etc. It is a unique zoo identity in India as a zoo is run by Agriculture University. Maharajbag Zoo has got National Recognition by Central Zoo Authority. It has contributed to the wildlife conservation, treatment, wildlife education and pollution control of the Nagpur City in a big way.

The main objective of the Maharajbag Zoo are to impart conservation education to the public, promote wildlife preservation and conservation values, provide suitable environment for endangered species and to conduct research studies on veterinary aspect of animals in captivity. Maharajbag Zoo is involved in Management, Conservation and breeding programmes for endangered species and other conservation projects.
