Girl’s Hostels College of Agriculture,

Nagpur

About the hostel

Girl’s hostel (Jijau) was established in August 1999, with the objective to accommodate as many girl’s as possible as there was increase in the number of girl’s opting agriculture. This hostel had an intake capacity of 60 girl’s. Gradually there was rise in the number of girl’s studying agriculture and hence, another new girl’s hostel in the name of Savitri was built in 2007. This hostel could accommodate another 78 girl’s. Presently even these two hostels are sufficient for all the girl’s studying in the college . Many a times students from rural areas especially those belonging to weaker sections have to give up their educational pursuits for the reason that adequate hostel facilities are not available for them in the quality education centers. Having considered this problem, two quarters besides the warden’s residence are also being allotted to the girl’s .Some of the students will also be accommodated on temporary basis in these quarters.

Students of B.Sc.(Agri), M.Sc.(Agri) & M.B.A (Agri.) are accommodated in these two hostels. Accommodation provided is cosy, spacious, well ventilated rooms with natural light on a twin or three sharing basis. Separate dining halls with fresh cool & purified drinking water is provided to students . Entertainment facilities like television, newspapers, magazines and indoor games like Carrom, Table tennis etc are also provided to students . Gymnasium facility with some modern equipment is also provided to the students . Hostel has several other facilities like washing machines, invertors in the mess etc. .

Computesr facilities with internet is also available to the students . The broadband internet connection of the hostel was inaugurated by the then D.G., ICAR, Dr. Mangala Rai.

As the students are mostly from economically weaker sections of the society, and also that medical check-ups are costlier at Nagpur, a lady doctor has been appointed on contract basis for the students of the hostel. The doctor examines the students free of cost on every Wednesday and also in case of severe emergencies.

There is a warden assisted by Junior Research Assistant and a few supporting staff to look into the daily affairs of the hostel. The wardens are generally teachers of the University. The warden necessarily visits the hostel at 8:00PM, when the girl’s assemble for prayer and then the prefect of the hostel takes attendance and then the students  report to the warden regarding the complaints if at the hostel .
